Hey, I’m Tom: not your typical developer. I always start with the who and the why, not the technology. After more than 8 years of building websites, webshops, and online strategies, I know one thing for sure: the most beautiful tech is worthless if the story behind it isn’t right.
I’ve always had a broad interest in people, culture, and society—in how stories work, what they mean, and why they stick. That background makes me a different kind of sparring partner than your average developer.
I believe that people are only truly helped when the solution aligns with who they are and what they want to achieve.
A specific platform, medium, or technical solution is rarely a good starting point. In fact, it’s often a pitfall. The tool then dictates the story, while the story should dictate the tool. Sometimes the best solution is a sharper message, a clearer story, or a better structure. Only when that is clear do we look together at how we can make it happen.
That belief doesn’t just come from my work, but also from who I am: curious about people, their stories, and the world around them.
By starting with the person and the story, not the platform or the tool. By asking further than what is being asked, because the real question behind a question is sometimes different than you’d think. By constructively challenging assumptions. By making complex matter accessible without oversimplifying it. And by working together from the first idea to a working solution, so that you understand what’s there and can take it further yourself.
